A celebration for our Patron
We were delighted to be invited by Her Majesty The Queen to a special Reception to celebrate the patronages and affiliations of Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra at Buckingham Palace on 29 November 2016.
Our Chairman John Smith, Director General Jan McLoughlin and Head Nurse Steph Williams (pictured below) from Middlesbrough Pet Hospital attended the event. Steph was invited to round off a wonderful year for her in which she received our highest honour for a colleague, the Edward Bridges Webb Memorial Award, for her dedicated service.
For more than fifty years, the Princess has worked with over 100 charities as Patron or President and the Reception honoured her work and service. Princess Alexandra is our longest-serving Patron and was particularly proud to succeed her mother HRH Princess Marina in the role. She became our Patron in 1972 and the official announcement was made on 1 January 1973.
Thanks two million!
We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been given a fantastic funding boost by players of People’s Postcode Lottery of a whopping £2 million.
The funds will help to secure a better future for countless pets and enable us to provide emergency care and life-saving equipment in our Pet Hospitals.
Thanks to the generosity of players, it’ll also fund pet first aid workshops in communities (see Dealing with a pet emergency) and advice on medical conditions through videos and digital content, which will be available to all pet owners nationwide. This support will allow our care and expertise to touch the lives of thousands more deserving animals.
Players of People’s Postcode Lottery are amongst our biggest funding sources and have raised over £3.2 million for us since October 2013. We’ve received a grant from People’s Postcode Lottery for the last three years. Their support has enabled us to undertake vital treatment, preventive health and education programmes in our Pet Hospitals as well as in schools and communities across the UK.
