Making a difference
It’s the ultimate running challenge and the largest annual one-day fundraising event in the world. We’re talking about the Virgin Money London Marathon of course and it’s just over a month away on Sunday 23 April.
Every year more than 30,000 people run the 26.2-mile race through the streets of London and Team PDSA is among them again this year. Our runners this year are Senior Vet at Sheffield Pet Hospital Rob Haselgrove, Koren Weyand, Veterinary Care Assistant, Margate Pet Clinic, The Frank and Ethel Fright Centre, and vets Chris Sherwood from Leicester Pet Hospital and Tim Stead from York Pet Practice.
Says Rob, ‘I’ve run the marathon before in 2013 and had an amazing experience. Enough time has passed for me to forget the pain of long, daily training runs in the cold and dark, so I thought I’d do it again in 2017. The atmosphere created by all the runners and supporters is electric and really gives me the energy to keep running.’ If you’d like to sponsor Rob, you can visit his webpage virginmoneygiving.com/RobertHaselgrove
Great Manchester Run
For anyone looking for something less strenuous than a full marathon, we have places this year in the Manchester Half Marathon this May. We’ve also got places up for grabs in the 10k race taking place on the same day. You can secure your place by getting in touch with the Fundraising Team. Or if you have a place of your own, we’d love you to run for us. Email events@pdsa.org.uk
Fundraising extra - spring into action
Spring is a time of new beginnings so why not give something up in aid of PDSA? It could be something life-changing like giving up smoking or sugar or takeaways. All of your efforts, big or small would help us. If you’ve always wanted to try something new, be it a skydive, running a marathon or just doing something for charity, we’d love to hear from you. Here's some ideas to get you started:
Dust off your walking boots, don those wellies and get walking for PDSA. It’s a good excuse to take your furry four legged friends with you.
As the days get longer and warmer, get your trainers on and turn your miles into smiles by signing up to one of our charity places. Not interested in the London Marathon or Great North Run? Then take part in one of your local runs instead.
Stay dry by hosting an event in aid of PDSA. Cake bakes are always popular but why not try a cocktail evening or quiz night?
Get yourself outside and organise a BBQ or picnic event in aid of poorly pets. Perhaps have a dog walker’s tea party in the park or throw a mini street/garden party. Contact our Fundraising Team on 01952 797453 or email events@pdsa.org.uk
