It’s here! Our Centenary year has officially begun and what a year it’s going to be.

It’s a wonderful time to reflect on our long and inspiring history while making plans for our future. I hope you enjoy the features in this special edition of PDSA News which gives both a nod to the past and explores what we’re doing today.

We’ve found some striking photographs from our archives that show our humble origins, how we’ve grown and how we grasped every opportunity to tell people about our vital work helping sick and injured pets.

I love the old pictures of clients and their animals outside the dispensaries; it proves that we’ve always been there to help those in need and that need has never gone away. I feel very honoured to be leading the organisation during this monumental year and focusing on increasing income, raising awareness and engaging supporters.

There’s going to be plenty going on including a big focus on letting the public know more about our service through Pet Hospital open days and by raising funds and awareness with our 100 Ways initiative. A few months ago, it was asked if all the Directors would take part in a fundraising challenge during our Centenary year and we asked our people to gather suggestions from their teams. From the three challenges shortlisted we're going to cycle 100 miles for 100 years and cover the distance in a single day on exercise bikes – and not necessarily in one location.

Our Founder’s vision is as true today as it was back then. Maria Dickin carved out a role for PDSA in society which has stood the test of time. She was never one to look back on her work as she was very much focused on the job ahead.

I sincerely hope you enjoy our Centenary year and this special edition of PDSA News. PDSA was built on the hard work of people that have the same heartfelt belief that we’re a wonderful charity doing a huge amount of good for people and pets in need. Thank you all for your support.
