PDSA Remembers

We’re sad to report the passing of Mr Eddie Fright whose wonderful generosity helped to fund our Margate Pet Clinic, The Frank and Ethel Fright Centre, which was named in memory of Eddie’s parents. Eddie and his wife Lillian had a great fondness for PDSA after our mobile veterinary teams cared for their many beloved cats.

The Clinic opened in December 2014 and was the first to offer our concessionary service to pet owners.

As we look ahead to our Centenary being celebrated later this year, we’ll also be taking a look back at some important moments in our history.

Did you know that it was twenty-five years ago that we launched our new children’s club – Pet Protectors, the successor to Busy Bees? New members started to join in 1992, but we held the official launch the following year at the Gulliver theme parks in Matlock and Warrington.

We were helped by some celebrity guests (pictured) including Cheryl Baker (of Bucks Fizz fame, here with her pet dog Malcolm), the then up-and-coming pop singer Cathy Dennis and Arthur ‘the Kattomeat cat’.

Cheryl and TV presenter Neil Buchanan were our club presidents. The club’s aim was to teach responsible pet ownership to five to fourteen-year-olds in a friendly and informative way.

It’s great to see our Pet Protectors club still going strong after a quarter of a century.
