Every day our vet teams across the UK help sick and injured pets get back on their paws and stay fit and healthy. Here’s a remarkable story about a hit and run which left cat Perci with three broken legs.

A two-year-old tabby cat was rushed to our Leicester Pet Hospital for emergency veterinary treatment after being hit by a car and suffering life-threatening injuries.

Perci was immediately given pain relief and made comfortable so he could be x-rayed.

Our vet team then had to inform his worried owner Charlotte Cunningham that he’d broken three of his legs.

Charlotte said, ‘We found Perci screaming and wailing, making a sound that I’ve never heard a cat make before. He was in a horrific state.

The vets at PDSA warned us that Perci was in shock and that there was a high chance he may not pull through because his injuries were so severe. The next few days were critical as to whether he’d make it.’

Thankfully, Perci is a fighter and after a few days recovering from his ordeal and building up his strength he was operated on to repair his three broken legs. Over the next seven days, Perci had three major operations in a bid to save his life.

Charlotte added, ‘It would have been unthinkable to put Perci down, he’s my world. PDSA did everything they could to save him. I’m so glad and so thankful.’

Vet Surgeon Chris Sherwood who was part of the team who treated Perci said, ‘He sustained terrible injuries. While his injuries mean he may never gain full mobility of his back right leg, he has lots of life in him yet. We’re so pleased he’s making such a brilliant recovery.’

Treatment of emergency cases like Perci is made possible due to the generous funding from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Thanks to their invaluable support we’re able to provide thousands of life-saving treatments across the UK.
